Samuel ist ein an den Rollstuhl gefesselter Junge, der mit seiner Mutter Elena (Cavallin) auf einem abgelegenen Anwesen im Wald lebt und zunehmend von seltsamen und verstörenden Ereignissen schockiert wird. Dann kommt die Teenagerin Denise (Francesconi), die das Gleichgewicht der Familie endgültig durcheinanderbringt. Regisseur Roberto De Feo gibt sein Regiedebüt mit einem Werk, das eher Thriller als Horror ist und auf dem 72. Filmfestival von Locarno präsentiert wurde. Es gelingt ihm, den Zuschauer während des gesamten Films in Atem zu halten, und selbst wenn nichts passiert, spürt man immer etwas Bedrohliches. Statt Antworten zu liefern, wirft das Werk Fragen auf, die sich erst im Horror und dem beunruhigenden Ende weiterentwickeln. Der Film hat alles … eine hervorragende Regie (unglaublich, dass es ein Debüt ist), eine gut harmonierende Besetzung und einen spannungsgeladenen und melancholischen Soundtrack. Gedreht im Parco della Mandria, meiner Meinung nach wärmstens zu empfehlen und nicht weit von Mario Bava und Lucio Fulci entfernt. Wir warten auf das zweite Werk des Regisseurs, um zu sehen, ob er sein Können bestätigt ... aber er hat bereits einen guten Start hingelegt ... ein rein italienischer Gothic-Film und eine echte Überraschung der Saison. Ich habe ihm vier Sterne gegeben ... aber vielleicht hätte er sogar noch mehr verdient ... für mich offensichtlich.
Samuel is a boy confined to a wheelchair who lives with his mother Elena (Cavallin) in an isolated estate in the woods and increasingly shocked by strange and disturbing events. Then comes the teenager Denise (Francesconi) who will definitively upset the balance of the family. Director Roberto De Feo makes his directorial debut with a work that is more thriller than horror and was presented at the seventy-second Locarno Film Festival and had the ability to keep the spectators suspended for the entire duration of the film and even when nothing happens you feel that there is always something threatening. Rather than providing answers, the work poses questions that evolve only in the horror and disconcerting ending. The film has everything.... excellent direction (incredible that it is a debut), a well-blended cast and a tense and melancholic soundtrack. Filmed in the Parco della Mandria, highly recommended for me and not far from Mario Bava and Lucio Fulci. We are waiting for the director's second work to see if he confirms his skills... but he has already started off on the right foot... an all-Italian gothic and a real surprise of the season. I gave it four stars... but perhaps it deserved even more... for me obviously.
