Da die örtliche Polizei bei der Suche nach dem oder den Mördern, die ein 13-jähriges Mädchen mit Down-Syndrom vergewaltigt und ermordet haben, keine Fortschritte erzielt hat, wird ein hochkarätiger Kriminalbeamter aus Oslo in das abgelegene Dorf Høtten gerufen. Schnell wird klar, dass jeder im Ort weiß, dass die kürzlich aus einem Bach geborgene Leiche eines Jugendlichen einer der Täter ist; der andere ist sein Bruder, der vermisst und vermutlich tot ist. Zur Familie gehört auch Niklas (Gaute Skjegstad, der in einer sehr schwierigen Rolle brilliert), ein 12-jähriger Junge, der sehr unter den Taten der Dorfbewohner leidet, die der Ansicht sind, dass der Apfel nicht weit vom Stamm fällt. Der Kriminalbeamte versucht, sich mit dem Jungen anzufreunden, was sich als schwierig erweist… Doch als sich der vermisste Bruder dem Kriminalbeamten stellt, scheint es endlich Fortschritte bei der Aufklärung des Verbrechens oder der damit verbundenen Verbrechen zu geben. Dann wird Niklas’ Vater entführt und kastriert…
Because the local police force has made no apparent progress in the hunt for the killer or killers who raped and murdered a 13-year-old girl with Down’s Syndrome, a high-powered detective is called in from Oslo to the remote village of Høtten. It soon becomes clear that everyone in town knows that the body of a youth recovered recently from a stream was one of the killers, the other being his brother, who is missing, presumed dead. The detective tries to befriend the boy, but it’s a hard job…but when the missing brother turns himself in to the detective, it seems like there might finally be some progress to solving the crime or crimes involved in this. Then Niklas’s father is kidnapped and castrated…
