In einer ländlichen Gegend der Türkei beschließt ein Vater (Genco Erkal), mit seinem kleinen Sohn (Harun Yesilyurt) in die weit entfernte Stadt zu ziehen, um genug Geld für dessen Schulbildung zu verdienen. Dort angekommen, muss er jedoch feststellen, dass der ihm angebotene Job – Gemüseverkauf auf einem Karren – viel härter ist als erwartet, da die Märkte von Banden kontrolliert werden, die unabhängige Händler ausschließen. Gemeinsam mit anderen armen Händlern leben sie unter freiem Himmel in Ruinen und versinken in bitterer Armut, während der Vater weiterhin an dem Traum festhält, seinem Sohn eine Ausbildung zu ermöglichen.
Ali Özgentürks zweiter Spielfilm zählt zu den gefeiertsten türkischen Filmen der 1980er Jahre, gewann zahlreiche Preise auf internationalen Filmfestivals und fand sogar einen beachtlichen Vertrieb in den USA. Inspiriert vom italienischen Neorealismus und den Filmen von Yilmaz Güney (für den Özgentürk als Regieassistent gearbeitet hatte), erzählt er die erschütternde Geschichte eines armen Dorfbewohners, der mit seinem kleinen Sohn in die Großstadt reist, um ihm eine Ausbildung zu ermöglichen. Er nimmt eine Stelle als Straßenverkäufer von Lebensmitteln an. Natürlich läuft nicht alles nach Plan.
Trotz der düsteren und trostlosen Erzählweise verleiht Özgentürk der Geschichte seine gewohnte poetische Lyrik, wodurch Momente entstehen, die an magischen Realismus grenzen. Das Ergebnis ist eher eine Fabel als eine düstere Warnung – wunderschön und zugleich sehr, sehr traurig.

But once there, he finds that the job he was lured with, selling vegetables on a cart, is much harder than he thought, because the markets are controlled by gangs who exclude independent sellers. Living out in the open in some ruins, along with other poor merchants, they sink into desperate poverty, while the father continues to cling to the dream of getting his son an education.
Ali Ozgenturk’s second feature was one of the most acclaimed Turkish films of the 1980s, winning numerous awards at international film festivals and even getting decent distribution in the U.S. Inspired by Italian neorealism and by the films of Yilmaz Guney (for whom Ozgenturk had worked as an assistant), this is the devastating story of a poor villager who travels with his young son to the big city in an effort to get the boy an education. He takes a job selling groceries out of a cart on the street. Needless to say, things don’t work out as planned.
Despite its gritty and bleak narrative, Ozgenturk brings his usual poetic lyricism to the tale, resulting in moments bordering on magical realism. The result is more a fable than a grim cautionary tale – both beautiful and very, very sad.

Edwin's only friend is Flack, but even with him, he can't share everything that's troubling him. Meanwhile, bullying at school between Edwin and Flack reaches a critical point, and Flack proposes a plan for Edwin to get revenge on his bullies.
"And Then I Go" is a drama about school violence and the challenges of adolescence, based on Jim Shepard's novel "Project X."


Der Teenager Edwin kämpft mit den Herausforderungen der Pubertät. Er steht unter enormem Druck durch Lehrer, Probleme mit Mitschülern und die hohen Erwartungen seiner Eltern. Edwins einziger Freund ist Flack, doch selbst ihm kann er nicht alles anvertrauen, was ihn bedrückt. Unterdessen spitzt sich das Mobbing zwischen Edwin und Flack in der Schule zu, und Flack schlägt Edwin einen Plan vor, wie er sich an seinen Peinigern rächen kann.

Er fing an, ständig mit einem nicht existierenden, imaginären Freund zu sprechen, was dazu führte, dass er in eine psychiatrische Klinik eingewiesen wurde. Papa arbeitete dort weiter und erfand einen Drachen, der ohne Wind fliegen konnte. Und mein Onkel, der böse Bruder meines Vaters, nahm mich auf und übernahm die Leitung unserer Fabrik. Er brauchte weder mich noch die Spielzeugfabrik, er brauchte nur Geld, viel Geld. Und dann beschloss mein Onkel, die Fabrik an Chinesen zu verkaufen, die sehr an Papas neuer Erfindung – dem Drachen – interessiert waren. Ich muss mir unbedingt etwas einfallen lassen, um Papa und unsere Fabrik zu retten …“

But then, when Mom died, strange things started happening to Dad. He started constantly talking to some non-existent, imaginary friend, which resulted in him being hospitalized for the mentally ill. Dad continued working there and invented a kite that could fly without wind. And my uncle, my father's evil brother, took me in and started running our factory. He didn't need me or the toy factory at all, he only needed money, lots of it. And then my uncle decided to sell the factory to some Chinese, who were very interested in Dad's new invention—the kite. I really need to come up with something to save Dad and our factory..."

Adaptation of one of Benelux most famous children's novels. Tough prime school girl Akkie loves soccer and can be a real bully. Love is the only thing she's scared of. When Akkie is diagnosed with Leukemia, she has to fight for her life. On the verge of going to high school, Akkie has to allow love to enter her life, and thus gain courage to accept the inevitable. 

Akki, das beliebteste Mädchen der Schule, liebt Fußball und kann es mit jedem Schulrüpel aufnehmen. Doch eines Tages erhält sie die Diagnose Leukämie … und muss nun um ihr Leben kämpfen. Am Rande eines Nervenzusammenbruchs geht sie zur Schule, in der Hoffnung, endlich Klarheit zu gewinnen und die wahre Liebe zu finden. Dadurch erhofft sie sich, in dieser schweren Zeit Halt und Unterstützung zu finden.

They are enterprising, energetic, and full of fresh vitality. Despite the fact they are rejected by their parents and ignored by the world, they form among themselves a powerful example of solidarity. Ablakon is something of a different order. He is an adult delinquent and a swindler. Posing as a businessman, he has deceived a countless number of people. When he and his accomplice return to the village, his extravagant behaviour is mistaken for a sign of success. Following his example many young people leave for the city. But they will soon understand their mistake...

Gilles, ein Mitarbeiter der Einrichtung, versucht, den Jungen aus der allgegenwärtigen Gewalt, in der er lebt, herauszuholen.

Film ‘Crni Biseri’ was shot on various Korcula locations. Main location for film was Badija, small island in Korcula archipelago, where Franciscan monastery was used as main location for this film.
Film ‘ Crni Biseri’ follows the story of school teacher in young offenders institution, isolated on small island (Badija) who tries to create positive environment for his disadvantaged students and after lot of trouble, eventually succeeds in achieving it.
This is what Hal Erickson of All Movie Guide says abour Crni Biseri: ‘ This Yugoslavian social drama deals with juvenile delinquency. The titular “Black Pearls” are a group of male reform school inmates, considered beyond redemption by the school authorities. Tensions mount to a fever pitch, culminating in a school revolt.
Tragedy is averted by the intervention of an idealistic teacher, who is convinced that he can “reach” the kids-and, perhaps because he is a staunch advocate of the Tito regime, he is successful. Clearly inspired by such Hollywood efforts as The Blackboard Jungle, Crni Biseri was one of the more upbeat entries in Yugoslavia’s 1958 Pula Film Festival. ‘
A lot of local people were working on this film as extras having great fun doing it.

Die Spannungen spitzen sich zu und gipfeln in einer Schulrevolte. Eine Tragödie wird durch das Eingreifen eines idealistischen Lehrers verhindert, der überzeugt ist, die Jugendlichen erreichen zu können – und vielleicht, weil er ein überzeugter Anhänger des Tito-Regimes ist, gelingt ihm das auch.“ Offensichtlich von Hollywood-Produktionen wie „Die Saat der Gewalt“ inspiriert, zählte „Crni Biseri“ zu den optimistischeren Beiträgen des jugoslawischen Filmfestivals von Pula 1958. „Viele Einheimische wirkten als Statisten an diesem Film mit und hatten dabei großen Spaß.“

Geeta and her parents move to a small town of Hari Nagar where her dad has been appointed Principal of a school. During her very first day, Geeta finds out that her video gaming device has been stolen. After complaining to her school teacher, who ends up searching every student's bags, finds the device in Shyam's schoolbag. Shyam is humiliated and punished. Then another student, Satish Kumar, the son of Member of Legislative Assembly, Makhan Lal Akela, finds that his gold chain is missing. They automatically suspect Shyam, and along with local goons and Police go to his residence to search for Shyam and the missing chain. Shyam's uncle and cruel aunt vehemently deny any theft, but no one believes them, they end up searching the house, find Shyam and chase him into the lighthouse, where he hides. Shyam does not know that this lighthouse is the very venue of a spirit of a dreaded pirate that has been lying dormant for 100 years, and is now ready to wake and wreak havoc all round again. 


Geeta und ihre Eltern ziehen in die Kleinstadt Hari Nagar, wo ihr Vater die Stelle des Schulleiters angetreten hat. Gleich am ersten Schultag bemerkt Geeta, dass ihre Videospielkonsole gestohlen wurde. Nachdem sie sich bei ihrer Lehrerin beschwert hat, durchsucht diese alle Schultaschen der Schüler und findet die Konsole schließlich in Shyams Schultasche. Shyam wird gedemütigt und bestraft. Dann bemerkt ein anderer Schüler, Satish Kumar, der Sohn des Abgeordneten Makhan Lal Akela, dass seine Goldkette fehlt. Sofort verdächtigen sie Shyam und begeben sich zusammen mit lokalen Schlägern und der Polizei zu seinem Haus, um nach Shyam und der Kette zu suchen. Shyams Onkel und seine grausame Tante leugnen den Diebstahl vehement, doch niemand glaubt ihnen. Schließlich durchsuchen sie das Haus, finden Shyam und verfolgen ihn bis zum Leuchtturm, wo er sich versteckt. Shyam ahnt nicht, dass dieser Leuchtturm der Aufenthaltsort des Geistes eines gefürchteten Piraten ist, der seit 100 Jahren schlummert und nun bereit ist, zu erwachen und wieder überall Chaos anzurichten.
