Film ‘ Crni Biseri’ follows the story of school teacher in young offenders institution, isolated on small island (Badija) who tries to create positive environment for his disadvantaged students and after lot of trouble, eventually succeeds in achieving it.
This is what Hal Erickson of All Movie Guide says abour Crni Biseri: ‘ This Yugoslavian social drama deals with juvenile delinquency. The titular “Black Pearls” are a group of male reform school inmates, considered beyond redemption by the school authorities. Tensions mount to a fever pitch, culminating in a school revolt.
Tragedy is averted by the intervention of an idealistic teacher, who is convinced that he can “reach” the kids-and, perhaps because he is a staunch advocate of the Tito regime, he is successful. Clearly inspired by such Hollywood efforts as The Blackboard Jungle, Crni Biseri was one of the more upbeat entries in Yugoslavia’s 1958 Pula Film Festival. ‘
A lot of local people were working on this film as extras having great fun doing it.

Der 13-jährige Frank Mosmann, genannt „Moses“, träumt häufig einfach in den Tag hinein. Dabei versucht er sich von den Alltagsproblemen abzulenken, denn seine Eltern stehen kurz vor der Trennung. Doch das Leben ist kein Traumland und die Realität holt ihn schneller ein, als er denkt. Eine unerfüllte Liebe zu dem Nachbarmädchen Dinah wirft ihn fast komplett aus der Bahn. Doch nach der Schule fängt er sich und beginnt eine Lehre als Bauarbeiter. Da trifft er Dinah wieder…


Thirteen-year-old Frank Mosmann, nicknamed "Moses," often drifts through life in his daydreams. He tries to distract himself from everyday problems, as his parents are on the verge of separating. But life isn't a dreamland, and reality catches up with him faster than he expects. An unrequited love for the girl next door, Dinah, almost completely derails him. But after school, he pulls himself together and begins an apprenticeship as a construction worker. That's when he meets Dinah again…

Geeta and her parents move to a small town of Hari Nagar where her dad has been appointed Principal of a school. During her very first day, Geeta finds out that her video gaming device has been stolen. After complaining to her school teacher, who ends up searching every student's bags, finds the device in Shyam's schoolbag. Shyam is humiliated and punished. Then another student, Satish Kumar, the son of Member of Legislative Assembly, Makhan Lal Akela, finds that his gold chain is missing. They automatically suspect Shyam, and along with local goons and Police go to his residence to search for Shyam and the missing chain. Shyam's uncle and cruel aunt vehemently deny any theft, but no one believes them, they end up searching the house, find Shyam and chase him into the lighthouse, where he hides. Shyam does not know that this lighthouse is the very venue of a spirit of a dreaded pirate that has been lying dormant for 100 years, and is now ready to wake and wreak havoc all round again. 


Geeta und ihre Eltern ziehen in die Kleinstadt Hari Nagar, wo ihr Vater die Stelle des Schulleiters angetreten hat. Gleich am ersten Schultag bemerkt Geeta, dass ihre Videospielkonsole gestohlen wurde. Nachdem sie sich bei ihrer Lehrerin beschwert hat, durchsucht diese alle Schultaschen der Schüler und findet die Konsole schließlich in Shyams Schultasche. Shyam wird gedemütigt und bestraft. Dann bemerkt ein anderer Schüler, Satish Kumar, der Sohn des Abgeordneten Makhan Lal Akela, dass seine Goldkette fehlt. Sofort verdächtigen sie Shyam und begeben sich zusammen mit lokalen Schlägern und der Polizei zu seinem Haus, um nach Shyam und der Kette zu suchen. Shyams Onkel und seine grausame Tante leugnen den Diebstahl vehement, doch niemand glaubt ihnen. Schließlich durchsuchen sie das Haus, finden Shyam und verfolgen ihn bis zum Leuchtturm, wo er sich versteckt. Shyam ahnt nicht, dass dieser Leuchtturm der Aufenthaltsort des Geistes eines gefürchteten Piraten ist, der seit 100 Jahren schlummert und nun bereit ist, zu erwachen und wieder überall Chaos anzurichten.

Meanwhile, four real bandits are ripping up the gym floor to retrieve the hidden treasure. The principal blames the children and sends them to a special school that resembles a concentration camp. But Bandit and his friends come to their aid.

Things take a turn when Mandar starts talking to a mysterious nurse which he claims to be staying in the abandoned part of the hospital.

Švankmajers Worte treffen hier ins Schwarze: „Die Verklärung der Kindheit als verlorenes Paradies ist im Grunde verwerflich. Nicht einmal unsere Geburt kann angenehm sein. Die Kindheit ist voller Verbote, Ungerechtigkeit und Grausamkeit. Deshalb können es Kinder selbst kaum erwarten, erwachsen zu werden (was ebenfalls ein Fehler ist, wie die Idealisierung der Kindheit im Alter). Niemand kann so grausam sein wie ein Kind.“ Doch der Film handelt nicht einmal von Kindern im Krieg; er bietet eine zutiefst ironische Perspektive von jemandem, der all dies miterlebt und anschließend die Faszination und Desillusionierung der kommunistischen Tschechoslowakei erfahren hat.

Švankmajer's words are fitting here: "The fascination with childhood, as some kind of lost paradise, is fundamentally criminal. There can be nothing pleasant even in our very birth. Childhood is filled with prohibitions, injustice, and cruelty. That's why children themselves can't wait to grow up (which is also a mistake, like idealizing childhood in old age). No one can be as cruel as a child." But the film isn't even about children during the war; it's a deeply ironic perspective from someone who lived through it all and then experienced both the fascination and disillusionment of communist Czechoslovakia.

A blind woman who collects bells and never leaves the house suddenly finds herself alone when her mother dies.  Then a neighbor 12-year-old boy, who others term as slow, becomes her friend.  Together they both make new discoveries, the main one being that the boy suffers from dyslexia -- a condition that none of his teachers or parents have discovered.  The boy aids the older woman in learning to use a walking cane, so she can become mobile and better take care of herself. 


Eine blinde Frau, die Glocken sammelt und nie das Haus verlässt, ist nach dem Tod ihrer Mutter plötzlich allein. Da freundet sie sich mit einem zwölfjährigen Nachbarsjungen an, der von anderen als begriffsstutzig gilt. Gemeinsam machen sie neue Entdeckungen, vor allem, dass der Junge Legasthenie hat – eine Störung, die weder seine Lehrer noch seine Eltern bemerkt haben. Der Junge hilft der älteren Frau, den Umgang mit dem Gehstock zu lernen, damit sie mobiler wird und sich besser selbst versorgen kann.
