Lettland, 1946. Der Schüler Martins Pupols kam mit seinem Großvater, einem Fährmann, auf die Insel. Klassenkameraden warnten den Neuankömmling, dass er streng bestraft würde, wenn er eine rote Krawatte trage. Doch es gelang ihnen nicht, den Jungen einzuschüchtern. Gemeinsam mit Lehrer Zemetis überzeugt Martins die Kinder, die Lokomotive zu reparieren und das Pionierkraftwerk in Betrieb zu nehmen. Die Feinde der neuen Regierung wollen während des feierlichen Starts eine Explosion organisieren. Die Pioniere verhinderten Sabotage und halfen, den Saboteurkommandanten mit dem Spitznamen „Maulwurf“ zu neutralisieren. Die Jungs gründen die erste Pionierorganisation in der Schule ... Basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Werk von Laimonis Vāczemnieks.
Latvia, 1946. Schoolboy Martins Pupols arrived on the island with his grandfather, a ferryman. His classmates warned the newcomer that if he wore a red tie, he would be severely punished. But they failed to intimidate the boy. Together with teacher Zemetis, Martins convinces the boys to repair the steam engine and launch the pioneer power station.
