Eine eigentümliche Privatchronik des 20. Jahrhunderts, die Geschichte einer italienischen Familie von 1906 bis 1986, die Liebe und die alltäglichen Wendungen im Leben des Literaturprofessors Carlo. Im alten Familienhaus in Rom scheint fast nichts zu passieren – das normale Leben geht weiter. Jemand wird geboren, wächst auf, heiratet, geht an die Front, sucht Arbeit, erlebt persönliche Probleme, wird in politische Auseinandersetzungen verwickelt, vergisst sie bald ganz, altert allmählich und blickt dann fassungslos auf die Vergangenheit zurück: Gab es Leben?! Und nur die zahlreichen Verwandten, die sich zum 80. Geburtstag des Familienoberhaupts versammelt haben und auf einem weiteren Familienfoto festgehalten sind, bestätigen mit ihrer Anwesenheit, dass viele Jahre vergangen sind, seit der Held im Säuglingsalter zum ersten Mal auf der Leinwand erschien – und mehrere Generationen gewechselt haben.
A peculiar private chronicle of the 20th century, the story of one Italian family from 1906 to 1986, the love and everyday twists and turns in the life of literature professor Carlo. It seems that almost nothing happens in the old family home in Rome - ordinary life goes on. Someone is born, grows up, gets married, goes to the front, looks for work, experiences personal troubles, gets involved in political disputes, soon forgetting about them altogether, gradually grows old, and then looks at the past with bewilderment: was there life?! And only numerous relatives gathered for the 80th birthday of the head of the house, captured in another family photo, confirm with their presence that many years have passed since the hero first appeared on the screen in infancy - and several generations have changed.
