Eine Verfilmung von Lesław Bartelskis gleichnamigem Roman. Der polnische Schüler Piotr verbringt mit seinen Eltern und seinem jüngeren Bruder die Ferien am Schwarzen Meer in Bulgarien im Haus des Fischers Slavcho. Eines Abends erzählt Slavcho am Lagerfeuer die Legende von der schönen Rada, der Tochter des türkischen Bey Mahmud: Ihr Vater wollte sie mit einem Adligen verheiraten, doch sie verliebte sich in einen armen Fischer und brannte mit ihm durch. Ein Sturm brach los, und das Schiff der Liebenden sank, zusammen mit dem Gold, das für Radas Mitgift bestimmt war. Am nächsten Morgen schleichen sich Piotr und sein Freund Stas, Slavchos Sohn, an Bord eines Schiffes, das aufs Meer hinausfährt, und verstecken sich dort. Als die Väter der Jungen von ihrem Verschwinden erfahren, beginnen sie mit der Suche. Inzwischen entdeckt die Schiffsbesatzung die Eindringlinge. Einer der Matrosen verlangt von den Jungen, ihm zu helfen, eine alte Truhe vom Meeresgrund zu bergen.

Polish schoolboy Piotr, along with his parents and younger brother, spend their holidays on the Black Sea in Bulgaria at the house of a fisherman named Slavcho. One evening, over a campfire, Slavcho tells the legend of the beautiful Rada, daughter of the Turkish Bey Mahmud: her father intended to marry her off to a nobleman, but she fell in love with a poor fisherman and ran away with him. A storm arose, and the lovers' ship sank, along with the gold intended for Rada's dowry...
The next morning, Piotr and his peer Stas, Slavcho's son, sneak aboard a ship sailing out to sea and hide there. The boys' fathers, having learned that they have disappeared, begin a search. Meanwhile, the ship's crew discovers the intruders. One of the sailors demands that the boys help him retrieve an ancient chest from the seabed...
