Bill Duncan und Annie träumen von einer Hochzeit. Doch Annies Vater hat andere Pläne. Er sieht den wohlhabenden George Hampton als Schwiegersohn, nicht den Lehrer Bill, dem er eine „unmögliche Bedingung“ stellt: zehntausend Dollar zu sparen.
