Die Journalistin Johanna kehrt auf die Färöer-Inseln zurück. Dort möchte die 38-Jährige das Haus ihrer verstorbenen Eltern verkaufen und mit dem Trauma ihrer Kindheit abschließen: dem Verlust ihres Vaters, der damals unter ungeklärten Umständen auf hoher See ums Leben kam. Während Johanna ihre Privatangelegenheiten angeht, eskaliert ein Konflikt um die im Rest der Welt verbotene Jagd auf vorbeiziehende Grindwale. Als Johanna dann auch noch die Leiche eines jungen Tierschützers aus Frankreich auf einer Felsenklippe entdeckt, beginnt sie zu recherchieren. Eine Lanze in seinem Rücken lenkt den Verdacht auf die „Grindler“, die Waljäger um Jacobsen und Brandur (Patrick O’Kane). Polizist Bjørg, ein Jugendfreund Johannas, möchte sich keinen Ärger einhandeln. Zwar verspricht ihm die Journalistin, sich aus allem herauszuhalten. Mit Unterstützung des Aktivisten Harms und seiner Schiffscrew möchte sie jedoch herausfinden, was offenbar vertuscht werden soll. Je tiefer Johanna in den Fall eintaucht, desto klarer erkennt sie: Die Lösung ist mit ihrer eigenen Vergangenheit und verdrängten Erinnerungen verknüpft.
The journalist Johanna returns to the Faroe Islands. There the 38-year-old wants to sell her deceased parents' house and come to terms with the trauma of her childhood: the loss of her father, who died under mysterious circumstances on the high seas. While Johanna deals with her private affairs, a conflict escalates over the hunting of passing pilot whales, which is prohibited in the rest of the world. When Johanna then discovers the body of a young animal rights activist from France on a rocky cliff, she begins to investigate. A lance in his back directs suspicion onto the "Grindlers", the whale hunters led by Jacobsen and Brandur (Patrick O'Kane). Police officer Bjørg, a childhood friend of Johanna, doesn't want to get into trouble. Although the journalist promises him to stay out of it, with the help of the activist Harms and his ship's crew, she wants to find out what is apparently being covered up. The deeper Johanna delves into the case, the more clearly she realizes: the solution is linked to her own past and repressed memories.
