Die 60er Jahre waren für die Berliner ein bewegtes Jahrzehnt. In dieser Zeit zwischen Mauerbau und Studentenbewegung erschien die geteilte Stadt immer wieder als Zentrum und Symbol des Kalten Krieges. Der Dokumentarfilm zeigt das alltägliche Leben in Ost und West. Anfangs gab es noch Kuhställe im Wedding, doch bald ärgerten die Jugendlichen ihre Eltern mit Beatles-Frisuren und Twist, Männer wollten keine Hüte mehr tragen, Hobby-Keller waren der letzte Schrei. Der Fernsehturm wurde zum neuen Wahrzeichen Ost-Berlins, man wollte beim Aufbau im Ostteil der Stadt mit dem Westen mithalten. Die Frauen entdeckten Pille und Minirock. Werbefilme aus den 60er Jahren geben die Atmosphäre der Zeit ebenso wieder wie die damals „angesagte“ Musik: In Ost-Berlin reichte die Geschmackspalette von Bärbel Wachholz bis zum Oktober-Club, im Westen von Bill Ramsey bis Jimi Hendrix.


The 1960s were an eventful decade for Berliners. In this period between the construction of the Wall and the student movement, the divided city repeatedly appeared as the center and symbol of the Cold War. This documentary shows everyday life in both East and West Berlin. At first, there were cowsheds in Wedding, but soon young people were annoying their parents with Beatles hairstyles and twists, men no longer wanted to wear hats, and hobby rooms were all the rage. The TV tower became East Berlin's new landmark; the city wanted to keep up with the West in the reconstruction of the eastern part of the city. Women discovered the pill and miniskirts. Commercials from the 1960s capture the atmosphere of the time as well as the music that was "popular" at the time: in East Berlin, tastes ranged from Bärbel Wachholz to the Oktober Club, in the West from Bill Ramsey to Jimi Hendrix.
