Edgar, ein zehnjähriger kräftiger und lebhafter Junge, ist fasziniert von Soldaten. Sein kleiner Bruder Charlie, eher schwächlich und schüchtern, bewundert Edgar. Die beiden Kinder stehen sich sehr nahe. Aber sie leben in einem Haus, das durch die Abwesenheit einer zu früh verstorbenen Mutter und eines noch immer trauernden Vaters getrübt ist. Der Mann ist depressiv und gewalttätig und lässt seine Wut an seinen beiden Söhnen aus.

This film is the initiatory route of a young child through the improvised paternalism of his older brother.
