Amanda is madly in love with her classmate Adam, but is too afraid to show her feelings. Everything becomes much more challenging when she is assigned as a mentor to Lars, the new boy in class who has Down syndrome.
Lars unintentionally draws attention to Amanda. She feels he embarrasses her in front of Adam and the others at school. But as Amanda gets to know Lars better, she discovers they have much more in common than she initially thought.
