Der Junge und das Mädchen liegen seit ihrer Geburt ständig im Krankenhaus, angeblich aufgrund einer Erkrankung des Immunsystems, die eine vollständige Isolation von der Außenwelt erfordert, sodass beide ständig nackt in Plastikblasen sind, was tödlich ist damit sie gehen. Das Bild deutet nicht auf eine schnelle Entwicklung der Ereignisse hin – in gemächlichem Tempo gelingt es den Jungs, nachts aus den Blasen herauszukommen und dann völlig davonzulaufen auf der Suche nach Alaska, das sie in einer Fernsehsendung gesehen haben...
