In Russia, troubled underage boys caught at various offences - from theft to multiple murder - are committed for a few years to closed state reform schools. There they live in a military style regime, starting the day with open-air exercises. Ironically, many come from such poor and/or abusive, often broken families that a structured life with three square meals, a warm dormitory and regular lessons, feels like a better arrangement. Some boys actually dread returning home.
Much of this film consists of the boys - many of them angelic in appearance - speaking for themselves individually; although these are the best and most interesting parts, I won't post them as sample images. But you can see them for yourself by watching the film. There are also interviews with some of their parents.
